1938 "Dorsey" Selmer Balanced Action Alto With Rare Selmer Traypack Case
$4,500
French-made pro alto with the tone that shaped modern jazz.
This alto was a closet find when a neighbor was cleaning out his mother's house. The serial number places it in 1938, and based on the engraving, it is a Dorsey model, developed by Selmer for Jimmy Dorsey. The horn is a relacquer and was completely overhauled by the late Wayne Tarnowski, one of the best Selmer repair techs in the New York City area. It is a very open and free blowing horn, and has that wonderful inimitable Selmer sound. Will make a great addition to anyone's collection as a primary horn or as a spare. The case is a true rare gem, with a cutout for flute and an insert case for clarinet
